J. Rae Lovko

Jennifer "Rae" Lovko began working for Paul & Hanley LLP in 2000. Over the past decade she has represented pipefitters, merchant marines, Navy veterans, railroad men, and other workers injured on the job. She has participated in numerous trials, including Gunderson v. Unocal, in which a jury awarded $11,550,750 to the wife of a pipefitter who contracted mesothelioma from laundering her husband’s asbestos-contaminated clothing.

Rae was born and raised in the Midwest and retains close family contacts in Indiana and Wisconsin. Her grandparents came to the U.S. from Europe in the early 1900s, eventually settling in Ohio. Several family members worked at the infamous Diamond Alkali/Shamrock facility in Painesville, which produced various toxins, including hexavalent chromium, and subsequently became an EPA Superfund site. Her grandfather regularly participated in UMW District 50 strikes at this facility.

Rae spent most of her childhood in Indiana and began her undergraduate education at Ball State University. In 1989, she graduated magna cum laude from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science. In 1993, Rae earned a Masters Degree in Sociology, with an emphasis in Criminal Justice, from William & Mary. Her thesis looked at criminal sentencing guidelines in Michigan.
