Asbestos bill a slap in the face to veterans - A Letter to the Editor

Editor,

Politicians in Washington love to talk about the Greatest Generation, but whether they truly honor those who defended this country in its darkest hour depends on actions, not words.

The asbestos bailout bill before the US Senate dishonors all asbestos victims, and especially Navy Veterans, who, from World War II on, were disproportionately poisoned by asbestos and make up vast numbers of asbestos cancer victims.

This bill will delay compensation to veterans for as many as nine years. It will take away our legal rights and force asbestos victims into an untested and unfair new bureaucracy designed not to help people, but to limit the liability of the asbestos makers and the insurance industry.
