Lead Exposure

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which tracks lead poisoning statistics, there are approximately 433,000 children between the ages of one and five with elevated levels of lead in their blood.

Such large numbers are disappointing considering that industry professionals have known since the early nineteenth century that lead poisoning can cause serious health problems, especially in children.  Because children are developing, lead exposure affects them to a greater extent than it does adults.

Despite the Consumer Products Safety Commission’s 1978 ban against the use of lead-based paints in homes, the National Safety Council estimates that some 38 million homes still contain lead-based paint.  Furthermore, approximately twenty-five percent of all United States homes contain some type of lead hazard.  Children under the age of seven are at the greatest risk of injury from lead poisoning because their brains and central nervous systems are still developing.

If exposed, lead will accumulate in a child’s body ultimately causing irreversible damage that may not appear for many years.  We understand that your family is the most important thing in your life and they deserve to be happy and healthy.  It is a traumatic thing to find out a member of your family has been diagnosed with lead poisoning and we want you to know that our attorneys and lawyers are here to help.
