Kcasbey K \latuson held second place in a higlil~~-competitive industry for a period of perhaps forty Fears. .It all began in 1S73 when Henry G. }ieasbec and Rich. ard V. \latusun, upon graduation from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy . formed a partnership fur the manu(acture of pharmaceutical preparations and opened a modest laboratory at 332 North Front Street in Philadelphia, Pcnn.rlrania . One of their most important products was carbonate of magnesia made from imposed kiesente . A few years later du partners discovered then could extract a superior quality of basic magnesium carbonate from high -grade dolomite that was available in large quantities at Ambler . Pennsylvania. In ISS2, Messrs . Keasbev and \Tatuson built their fiat plant at Ambler . It should he remembered that during this period the use of steam poorer was deceloping at a prodigious rate, cresting a need for efficient thermal insulauons . ]it ISS2 Niram Hanmore . of Philadelphia, an independent insulation contractor be trade. eras impressed by the extremely light weight of Magnesium carbonate which he saw being sold in a drug store. He purchased some of the material . applied it like plaster to a steam boiler and found it to be an excellent heat insulation . far superior to the plaster of Paris then in general lice for this purpose. Hanmore obtained a patent on the use of magnesium carbonate as a thermal insulation and applied
