The number of people diagnosed with asbestos caused diseases in the U.S. continues to increase. Experts believe 60,000 mesothelioma deaths will occur between 2010 and 2030.

Craig M. Peters

Craig Peters was born in Los Angeles and raised in the Bay Area.  He attended the University of California, San Diego where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy as well as Communications with a minor in Law & Society.  Shortly after college, Craig returned to the Bay Area and attended University of San Francisco (USF) School of Law, graduating in 1996.  During his time in law school, he was the editor of the law school newspaper, an invited student participant in the USF Inns of Court, and a volunteer in the Homeless Advocacy Project through the Bar Association of San Francisco
 

After graduating from law school, Craig was an active volunteer with the Cooperative Restraining Order Clinic, helping at-risk individuals escape abusive relationships with the assistance of the courts.  His first job was as a Deputy Public Defender in the Contra Costa County Public Defender's Office, where he tried over 45 cases to verdict.  In 1999, Craig was hired by the San Francisco Office of the Public Defender to handle a full range of felony cases. After more than ten years as a Deputy Public Defender handling a full caseload and regularly trying cases to verdict, Craig was made the Director of Training in San Francisco where he was responsible for working with new and experienced attorneys on training and case development issues.

 Craig has regularly been invited to speak on the issue of trial skills by law schools, professional organizations and outside agencies.  The international non-profit agency International Bridges to Justice, which seeks to end torture and build criminal justice systems around the globe, invited Mr. Peters to help train lawyers in India who are working with the indigent during a four day training in New Dehli.  In addition to teaching trial skills, Mr. Peters has also taught constitutional law at San Francisco Law School.
